Campaign against Tesco – Superchain

I thought this was a great website ‘Every Little Hurts’ – a spoof Tesco website but full of ‘facts about this monopoly’.

I admit cycling to the Covent Garden one the other day. The shame! The thing is in London, where the hell can you find a small supermarket that has things I like. In a small shop, they look at you blankly if I ask for houmous. I suppose we just have too much choice. I could have  chosen another dip perhaps. Most small supermarkets seem to be chains anyway now. I may even go to a Health Shop, but even they are often chains. 

I wonder if anyone has created a ‘travel book’  such as ’Living without chains for  a year’. I suppose it is a good if you want to go on a diet!

Anyway, here’s a list of Tescopoly’s aims:

• A block on any new take-overs by Tesco or other major supermarkets.

• Stronger planning policies to protect local shops and High Streets.

• A legally binding supermarket code of practice to ensure that all farmers, at home and overseas, are treated fairly.

• An independent watchdog with teeth to protect the interests of consumers, farmers and small retailers.

• Rules to protect workers’ rights at home and overseas.
