Shared Space – Kensington

Presented by some of the organsiers. Emphasis on Organisers!

So, these cyclists in Kensington who got run over by a Lorry, was this in the Shared Space area?

  1. Perhaps you would be interested to know how much concern there is about shared space over here where it comes from.

  2. I just wish Ashford learned from the experiences of people in the Netherlands before they even put it there. It’s these so-called expert’s fault (who probably never walk let alone cycle). I don’t think they even understand about elderly people having trouble to cross these places even. I can’t think of anyone who is for shared space in busy towns unless it is the Planners themselves or Green Organisations, who think that anything in the Netherlands must be good.

I was very interested in reading your comments.

It is only a matter of time before the So-Called Experts shove a Shared Space Scheme in Bow Road, one of the worst roads in London!

  3. I’m not so sure they do think that everything in the Netherlands is good. It seems to me that this one thing has been made very popular in the UK press, but that the infrastructure which lead to the Netherlands having the highest rate of cycling in the world has been almost completely ignored.

Shared space schemes in some of the villages are actually OK. They have little traffic and the roads were shared there anyway. So what is different then is just the look of the road, and generally they do look rather nice.

  4. I couldn’t agree more. The Netherlands are more pro cyclist, so how can we compare?

    The whole thing is bizarre.
