The Bike Commuter Ultimate Obstacle Course

This is a typical Sunday Morning Ride at Aldgate East Stadium.

I know you think I’m very lucky to have these facilities on my doorstep.

The video will be uploaded.. it’s just taking ages. Maybe it will upload by tomorrow!

Sainsburys Lorries in Whitechapel

Some good news for a change.

I saw a Sainsburys lorry with a ‘Caution Cyclists – Don’t cycle on the left’ – kind of sticker.

Shame not all Sainsburys Lorries have them or many other lorries… but it is a start. I could easily see the bright white sticker too.

Email from Nite Ize re Spokelits

This was in response to the light only lasting a few seconds:

“Thank you for your interest in Nite Ize products. We hope you enjoyed viewing our website.

In regards to your email, your Nite Ize SpokeLit has a “Try Me” mode which allows customers to see the glow and flash modes for 30 seconds before turning off automatically. This feature allows the SpokeLit to be tested in stores without having the batteries drained from products being left on.

There should be a yellow sticker inside or attached to your SpokeLit with instructions. To deactivate, you simply press and hold down the switch. It will first go into the glow mode, then rapid flash, then wait for it to shut off on its own. (It is important to wait for the rapid flash to shut off on it’s own.)

If this doesn’t work, you can remove the batteries for at least a minute and put them back in. Your support of Nite Ize is greatly appreciated. Let me know if you have any further questions and I would be happy to assist you”

Update: Well I had a go.. and they seem to be working! I keep expecting them to disappear though. I will upload a video of them later.

Bloomin’ Reversing Driver

This  driver  was reversing into my road, near Cannon Street, when I was sauntering up to the exit didn’t see me. (I was wearing bright clothes).

I stopped him and said ‘could he look out, as he nearly ran me over!’. Cheers’..

He was fine (thank god!).

Illegally Parked Van Driver gets telling off from Boss

This is a copy email sent to me this afternoon from a company who had a vehicle that was illegally parked on a cycle lane. Velochick reported him with a backed up video!

To Velochick

cc (name of driver)

“Please make sure you are parked legally and do not obstruct either pedestrians or cyclist! I have received the following complaint regarding your vehicle this morning”

I am going to write back and thank him for letting the driver know (and not become sloppy and complacent!)

Good Ideas from Abroad Again – The Road Safety Jersey

I’ve often thought that cycling jerseys don’t want others to be more aware of us, other than us wearing fluorescent clothing.

When I was out horse riding, we used to get Slow Horse etc. Cyclists don’t seem to get anything like that. However, I was pleased to see a really useful cycling jersey from the US – 3 ft please. Easy to see and it makes sure everyone sees it! They have no excuse. A nice pressie for Christmas I think.

Saying that I hope it comes in a warm jacket too! I have added a link to it as I am so impressed by it.

Needless to say

I managed to scarper before the Olympic Cycling ‘Hero’ Parade in London which the BBC are ‘desperately’ plugging like mad. Unlike the BBC, I’d much rather focus on highlighting the problems of ‘cyclists and cement mixers’. Those ‘Cycling Heroes’ aren’t doing much, if anything, about that problem are they?

Policehorse on Canal Cycle Path

Thanks to MyCycleClips for this. A Police Theme today eh?

Thick filthy Black Clouds Tower Bridge

This was yesterday, black clouds on a sunny day. Nah, I won’t airbrush out. Let tourists see the reality, and don’t forget to pack that anti-pollution mask.

Maybe we ought to get a song that sings about London’s Pollution. All this Green & Pleasant Land, well, it’s all a thing of the past with all the car parks etc… Why can’t we have a Postcard of Tower Bridge and a Cement Mixer to reflect the real London. Poor ol’ tourists, they get conned with airbrushed postcards!

Cycle trip to Epping Forest – well, got as far as Chingford.

From Leyton the trip was quite far, well, it felt far with the traffic! We cycled through some lovely Forest. We had a rubbish map hence our trip was cut short.

Here is a picture of a news cutting I read while having sarnies at a bench by the church at Chingford.. nice eh? People are lovely aren’t they? It is a good job I am quite reclusive, so I don’t have to mix with most of ’em!

A wonderful weatherboarded house in Chingford. For once, an architect has got it right. Shame most of Chingford is ‘souless surburbia’. I love the green in front of it. Beautiful!

Chingford, a Mock Tudor Surburban Close:-

Beautiful entrance outside the Church at Chingford (we had a picnic behind it):-

J cycling in Epping Forest with his new bike (BTW we were very lost here!)

Look carefully at this pic. We were by a lake in the Forest and we saw this strange animal resting on the tree trunk! It didn’t move for ages but it is a real turtle!

A family with kids spotted it and started to stupidly chuck things at it. We went back to the spot and thought about having a ‘Pond Rage’ attack but then we thought it was a lot safer, and more effective, if we ‘pretended to be really interested in the turtles’ and take videos.. the family scarpered after they thought they were being filmed. Oh the power of the video camera and youtube eh!

We saw the family start chucking things at the turtle from here and went off to investigate (or sort em out!)

J pointed out to me that we were wearing ‘colour coordinated clothing’, which was quite scary! While were were talking about it we saw a couple with co-ordinated bicycles – 2 bromptons – one for the bloke and one pink one for the girl! Lovely… I couldn’t wait to go back and change.
